Johannes Vermeer and one of his famous artworks.

Episode two.

Hi, my Friend. Ginger cat Charlie here again, as I promised.

So you are ready to listen to my story to the end now.

Johannes Vermeer completed his renowned painting "Girl with a Pearl Earring" in 1665. Over the next ten years, Vermeer continued to support his family through his art.

However, the financial strain was evident, and they would soon need additional support.

The thought of their impending struggles tugged at my heartstrings, making me realize the harsh realities that even great artists like Vermeer had to face.

Ten years later, he passed away, leaving behind his wife and eleven children.

His unexpected death cut short his art career, and most people did not know about or remember his artwork until the 19th century when

it was discovered and praised as a masterpiece of Dutch Art.

After feeling down, I left their house to see more of Delft.

Oh, my friend, it was unique and thrilling. The Market Square, which was close to

their house, was very busy. A moving wheel was in the middle, and many happy people were standing around it.

Along the edges of the square, small shops sold snacks, beer, wine, and one-of-a-kind gifts.

There were lots of lights and happy people. Then, I saw narrow canals going around the busy Market Square.

Boats floated along the edges of these canals. Along these narrow rivers were brick homes with elaborate architectural features and works of art.

Everything looked so beautiful, and it reminded me of an oil painting by the Mid-century Masters; it made me wonder at the beauty of life.

The intricate details of the architecture, the vibrant colours, and the lively atmosphere all contributed to the wonder I felt at that moment.

I climbed up on the ledge of a bridge to get a better view, but I fell off and into the water. I was about to make a splash when…

I woke up in my own house. In all the chaos, the first thing that came to mind was the artist's fate and how people don't always see ability until it's too late.

I looked at the girl in the painting on canvas in our home and mentioned that she looked different from Vermeer's Girl with Pearl Earrings, but I didn't think about that right now.

Having such a dream made me want to eat and take another nap.

By the way, regarding the famous Vermeer art painting in our home, my mistress made a more modern version of it. She titled it "Across the Times."

I like her original artwork better because it feels more modern, with its dreadlocks, tattoos, piercings, and other modern touches.

And, of course, I'd want to hear your thoughts on this updated rendition.

As for me, I believe current artists have the freedom to interpret the Old Masters in their own way.

Friends, I'm thankful you were with me through this story to the end.

See you soon.

Your faithfully ginger cat Charlie.
